Pineapple Express
Sativa Hybrid • Trainwreck x Hawaiian • American Bred,
Thai Genetics,
Mexican Genetics
While this strain rose to fame on the silver screen in 2008 amidst the release of Pineapple Express, it is a real strain that you can find on the shelves of dispensaries across the US and Canada.
“Pineapple Express,” believe it or not, is actually a meteorological term. It indicates strong moisture currents off of Hawaii that extend over the Pacific to the North American coast. In the mid-latitudes of the world, suffice it to say, water vapor is a big deal. Nowadays, the term is more directly associated with the 2008 stoner comedy of the same name, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. However, the film got its name from the strain, which I guess got its name from Hawaiian water vapour.
For growers, Pineapple Express grows in heavy nugs shaped like popcorn. It flowers in just over 7 weeks. To increase the strain’s potency, experienced growers recommend “super-cropping” the strain. If you didn’t know, this means using bush-style growing techniques, setting up lights that are at least 600W, and regularly topping the plants. When done, the plant is dense, light green, and subtly purple-tinted.
